WINCHESTER has one of the lowest rates of new coronavirus cases in the UK.
New data from Public Health England shows that in the Winchester district the rate has fallen from 1.6 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to July 20 to 0.8 in the seven days to July 27.
There was only one new case registered in the seven days leading up to July 27.
Blackburn with Darwin had the worst rate in the country, with 75.2 new infections, but that was down from 83.9 the previous week.
Oldham saw a jump from 11.0 per 100,000 to 48.4 in the days leading up to July 24.
The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).
The overall infection rate for the Winchester district is 384.6 per 100,000, with 478 cases recorded. The average infection rate for England is 464.
Office for National Statistics data shows that 109 deaths involving Covid-19 were provisionally registered in Winchester up to July 18.
