THE city has been listed as the top seventh most active place in the UK.

The research is revealed after a government-run campaign was launched to tackle the country's obesity issue.

Fitness company Future Fit Training found that Southampton scored 60.45 per cent as the UK's seventh most active city.

It was revealed that Southampton has 134 gyms, 32 public tennis courts, as well as 65.10 per cent of the population in Southampton being physically active.

It beat Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Leeds, but wasn't found to be as active as Norwich at 65.48.

The research also found that the people of Southampton had booked 12 personal training courses and had made 1,920 annual online fitness searches for home work outs and personal trainers.
