MORE than 7,200 youngsters poured onto Southampton Sports Centre for the biggest-ever youth games in and around Southampton.
The date was August 18, 2000, when thousands of sporty youths took to eight local sporting venues.
In the tradition of the biggest and best events, there was no shortage of helpers to see the Millennium Youth Games pass smoothly.
More than 400 volunteer sports assistants from all walks of life took part and did their bit.
Dan Harlow, who had the unenviable titel of volunteer manager at Fleming Park , Eastleigh, where the hockey, football and basketball tournaments took place.
Hailing from Highfield, Southampton, Dan had to make sure the competitions being held were running smoothly and that teams and their managers were happy.
Sixty volunteers from the English Hockey Association were invigilating the hockey schedule in Eastleigh.
Other unsung heroes included the army of St John Ambulance volunteers, who worked virtually non-stop.
