A PERSON who fell over the cliff near a popular holiday park was rescued by coastguards and police.

Emergency services were called to the clifftop on the eastern boundary of Naish Holiday Park in Barton-on-Sea at 8.10pm last night.

Southbourne and Lymington coastguards attended along with a Dorset Police officer who had engaged with the casualty.

As a cliff top rescue kit was being set up, the person decided to try to climb back up the cliff.

A spokesman for Southbourne Coastguard said: "The decision was made to assist him back to the cliff top via our edge safety officer and an on scene police officer from Dorset Police who had engaged with the casualty.

"Once recovered he was transferred to an ambulance for check up and assessment at hospital. With no other casualties the team stood down and returned to station."
