A WOMAN has smashed her fundraising target after setting up a social media page on behalf of Newport's Mountbatten.

Hannah Brunt's life has been dramatically impacted by cancer in recent years. Her father, Dave, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in spring 2017, while her older brother, Matthew, is now fighting terminal bowel cancer.

Target smashed

Aiming to raise £100, the Facebook appeal has already topped £1,500 in donations, with two weeks remaining.

The page was created on Monday July 13 — a day which would have marked Hannah's father's 70th birthday. Dave was well known on the Island for his time as a police officer and football referee. Sadly, he passed away just three months after being diagnosed.

Having smashed her fundraising target, Hannah will fulfil an earlier promise to get her hair cut, with the lopped locks donated to The Little Princess Trust.

Hannah said: "We had three short months between (my father's) diagnosis and his death. In that time the staff at Mountbatten showed him such kindness and care that we, as a family, are so incredibly grateful for.

"My heart is currently breaking as now my beautiful and brave big brother, Matthew, is fighting terminal bowel cancer. He is undergoing chemotherapy which is a gruelling and brutal treatment, but is buying him precious time."

There is still time to donate to the cause, those wishing to find out more and to help Hannah raise further funds can do so here
