PLANS to build bungalows behind two existing properties have been thrown out.
New Forest District Council has rejected an application relating to what it described as "tranquil green space" at Seymour Road, Ringwood.
Ringwood Town Council had objected to the proposal, saying it amounted to overdevelopment.
It added: "There would be a loss of amenity for the existing properties, lack of amenity space for the proposed bungalows and lack of amenity and aspect for the neighbouring properties."
The Ringwood Society also lodged an objection.
An NFDC report said: "The proposal would be an inappropriate form of backland development on a
confined plot which would be out of keeping with the site's surroundings and the existing pattern of development in the locality.
"As such, it would represent a harmful incursion into a larger area of tranquil garden space that
represents an important part of the area's local distinctiveness.
Therefore, the proposal would be out of keeping with the area and would undermine the local distinctiveness and character of the area due to the loss of this tranquil green space and
openness.
