THIS year's Charity Classic Car Show has been cancelled.

Organiser Vic Gallucci, who holds the shows at Newport and Ryde each September, has announced this year’s event won't go ahead.

Respecting ongoing governmental restrictions due to Covid-19, which prevent the large gatherings such as the car show attracts each year, and safeguarding the health of exhibitors, spectators and the general communities on the Isle of Wight, have made cancellation the only option, he said.

Added to this is that regulations necessary to maintain adequate social-distancing on sites at Newport Quay and Ryde Esplanade would mean the show could only accommodate a small fraction of the large number of vehicles that would normally attend on both days.

The announcement states: "Regrets are offered not just to those who were planning to attend the event, but also to the major charities, local businesses, ferry services, caterers, hotels, etc, who otherwise benefit from this annual event.

"Thanks are also acknowledged to the many local authorities, supporters and sponsors who have offered their invaluable support once again this year only to see it averted by the present pandemic."

As consolation, Vic and his team have already started arrangements for next year’s show, which will be over the weekend of September 11 and 12, 2021, and promise it will be even bigger and better.
