CLOUDS of smoke were seen bellowing out of a car after a driver reportedly "tore down" a busy road.

A silver BMW was allegedly first spotted driving down Marchwood Bypass, near Totton, when another driver saw pumps of smoke and molten coming out the back of the car.

This is when witness Jamie Hunter decided to follow the BMW in a bid to stop the driver and tell him his car was on fire.

He said: "I followed the guy who tore down Marchwood Bypass as I saw pumps of smoke and molten coming out the back of the car. Then it set on fire.

"I flashed him three times, he turned left into a layby, so I ran over to tell him his car was on fire underneath."

Jamie added that he called the fire brigade during the incident, which happened at around 2pm today.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
