Motorcyclist handed section 59 order after caught riding on Hedge End footpath

On the afternoon of June 26, a motorbike was ridden through the pedestrian footpath of Hedge End village, past the Co-op.

Video footage of the incident was posted online by local residents and was reported to the police.

Officers investigated the incident due to a "very real risk" of a collision and serious injury.

PCSO Mica said in a statement on the Hedge End Cops Facebook page: "Investigations are rarely quick in the police and there are a number of different reasons for this – not least because of the required time it takes to serve and received back the forms needed by law.

"And the time it takes to get all of the people needed in the same place, at the same time."

After making enquiries and collecting camera footage, the officers were able to issue a P22.

The P22 is a form police can issue which requires the registered keeper of the vehicle in question, to give to police the identity of the driver at the time that the offence occurred.

The registered owner has 28 days to reply, failure to supply the information without good reason means the registered owner is liable, on conviction, to a fine, endorsement of their license and disqualification form driving.

The owner was then ask to come into the station after sending his form back to police.

On August 18, the driver of the motorbike has attended Hedge End Police Station and was handed a a section 59 warning, which will last for 12 months.

PCSO Mica added: "If you ever see a motorbike being ridden in similar circumstances, please report it.

"If you have camera footage of the offence showing the registration, we can use the above process to deal with the offence.

"If there is no camera footage, but you witness this occurring and can provide the registration, we can take a statement from you and use that as the evidence to deal with the offence.
