A SAINTS first-team player is reported to have tested positive for Covid-19.

The player, who has not been named, is said to have tested positive after returning to the UK following a holiday abroad.

He must now face a period of self-isolation and will hace to train on his own while Saints begun pre-season preparations.

According to reports Southampton must now take steps to discover if other first-team players have also been infected.

It comes less than one month prior to the beginning of the new Premier League season.

There are said to be growing fears that players returning from holiday and possibly testing positive for Covid-19 could have a massive impact on the upcoming season.

A Liverpool player is also reported to have tested positive for the virus.

According to reports the club was forced to abandon their training camp in Evian, France, due to a spike in coronavirus cases and went to Austria to gear up for the new season.
They plan to remain there despite reports a player has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Officials at the club have refused to comment but it is understood a single member of the squad had a positive test during the regular screening they have undertaken since arriving in the country on Saturday.

Last month a Premier League spokesman said: "The Premier League is providing information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.

"No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing."
