THE GOVERNMENT is proposing to amend planning regulations,it says in order to speed up the building process.

Before I make my main point, developers are already sitting on land with planning permission, but are not building because it doesn't suit their financial agenda.

The old brewery site in Romsey is a perfect example.

That said, it strikes me that in reality, having lived in Hedge End for quite awhile now, there has seemed to be little hindrance in place.

Judging by the number of developments approved via Eastleigh Borough Council, they are numerous.

Huge amounts of open green space has been surrendered, and the natural habitat lost and altered forever.

I feel I shouldn't need to point out the obvious, but, do these developments really give a realistic hope for the younger less advantaged in our midst to find a secure home?

I fear not.

J.Martin.
