CORONAVIRUS cases in Southampton have dropped by more than half in one week.

On the week beginning August 8, there were 12 recorded coronavirus cases in the city.

But only a week later, starting on August 15, there were a recorded five cases of the virus in the city.

The figures, for the seven days to August 21, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and comes from Public Health England data published on August 24 on the Government’s coronavirus online dashboard.

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Across the rest of Hampshire, cases have been rising and falling in various places across the county.

In Winchester, there was a rise in eight cases on the week starting August 15, up from zero the week prior.

There was also a rise in coronavirus cases in the New Forest up to eight recorded cases compared to six cases recorded the week before.

But in Eastleigh, cases had dropped with four recorded cases on the week beginning August 15, a drop from seven recorded case previously.

Cases in Test Valley have remained the same with five cases recorded.

Whereas in Fareham, two cases were recorded on the week beginning August 15 - a drop from seven the week before.

In Gosport, cases have gone up by one, with two recorded cases, and in Portsmouth cases have gone up from six to ten.
