SCAMMERS have fly-tipped a shed after scamming an elderly resident.
A doorstop caller approached a pensioner in Wickham offering to "dismantle and remove a shed".
However, after taking it down they simply dumped the remains on nearby land.
Police are warning residents to be on their guard against strangers at the door as it "can be difficult to tell if the person is genuine, a rogue trader offering repairs or home improvements".
They add that there is no obligation to allow anyone into your home, and you are within your rights to refuse access.
Trading Standards advice is to never agree to work offered by a cold call or via a leaflet drop.
Residents should get "at least three written quotes from reputable businesses or traders who are members of a recognised trade association".
If you enter into a contract costing more than £42 at a place other than the business premises of the trader you generally have fourteen days to change your mind and cancel the contract, according to Trading Standards
To report rogue traders to Hampshire Trading Standards call 01962 833620.
