TEAMS have been out cleaning up the aftermath of torrential rain that brought flash floods to Winchester.
Photos show Hampshire County Council teams cleaning up Winchester High Street and surrounding areas after floods submerged shop floors, bins and even cars.
Already, local businesses and organisations are starting to worry about the cost of the damage the flooding has caused.
Noman Qureshi, of Fone World, said that the store has had to throw away more than £3,000 worth of stock.
The shop has had to rip up its carpet and have been cleaning all day to keep the business going.
The floods caused travel misery in the city, as roads were closed and rail networks blocked.
The main rail route from London to the south coast was blocked by a landslip, and emergency services were called out to a number of roads with blocked drains.
It was reported that there were major delays on bus services coming in and out of the city's bus station because of flooding to the Broadway.
There was also flooding at Airlie Corner and Christchurch Road in Winchester's Stanmore area.
Winchester Services on the southbound M3 was also closed due to flooding.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Winchester man Sam Buller said the water went all the way up to The Guildhall.
He said: “It was all the way up to my knees. I walked in it and it was a very strong current. You can see all the silt and everything that’s come down from the main road.”
Another Winchester resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “It filled about 60 per cent of the high street.”
