SHOCKING dashcam footage of dangerous drivers has been released as part of a new police campaign.

From near-misses with cyclists to motorists driving the wrong way down the road, the video from the Hampshire Road Policing Team shows a number of incidents from around Hampshire.

The video has been released after Hampshire Police launched a new campaign, Hants SNAP, where anyone with footage of a potentially dangerous incident can submit it to the police.

Daily Echo:

In a Tweet, Hampshire Road Police explained that they have had more than 200 Hants SNAP submissions of moving vehicle offences since July 1.

They claim there has been an "action rate" of 46 per cent with 66 Notices of Intended Prosecution and 32 warning letter sent to those caught driving dangerously on camera.

They said: "Thanks to your support we have been able to take action against drivers such as those in this video."

Daily Echo:

As previously reported, the scheme have been trialled since August 2019 with a focus on incidents that put pedestrians and cyclists at risk.

This has now been opened up to all road users, and road offences, with the exception of collisions and some other offences which should be reported by calling 101, or online.

To be considered by police, the footage must:

  • Be reported within seven days
  • Not be edited
  • Not have been deleted from your device
  • Not be shared on social media
  • Show between one to two minutes either side of the incident

Daily Echo:

Users must also answer some questions, and provide a witness statement, before the footage is sent to decision makers who will assess whether a prosecution is proportionate, and if the footage contains enough evidence.

Footage can be submitted by going to the SNAP site or on the Hampshire Constabulary website.
