ANOTHER case of coronavirus has been recorded in Southampton over the last 24 hours, official figures show.

Public Health England figures show that 1,023 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Friday (September 4) in Southampton, up from 1,022 the same time on Thursday.

The rate of infection in Southampton now stands at 405 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 525.

The following figures, for the seven days to September 1, are based on tests carried out in laboratories and comes from Public Health England data on the Government’s coronavirus online dashboard.

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Across the rest of Hampshire, cases have been rising and falling in various places across the county.

In Winchester, there was a rise of 14 cases on the week starting September 1, up from seven the week prior.

There was also a drop in coronavirus cases in the New Forest, down to 10 recorded cases compared to 17 cases recorded the week before.

In Eastleigh, cases had also dropped with four recorded cases on the week beginning August 15, up from two recorded cases previously.

Cases in Test Valley have gone up to 15, up from three the week before.

In Fareham, seven cases were recorded on the week beginning August 15 - up from four the previous week.

In Gosport, cases have gone down to zero, and in Portsmouth cases have gone up from 13 to 17.
