THE family of a Bolton man who died while in the Costa Del Sol have raised nearly £8,000 for Bolton Hospice in his memory.

Andrew Wallace, 54, had been on holiday with his work colleagues in Malaga in November last year.

The project manager had been out drinking with his colleagues on the evening of November 22, and was reported missing at a police station near the hotel they were staying at in Benalmadena when the group couldn’t get in touch with him.

Andrew’s body was tragically discovered in the marina early the next morning.

His nephew, Kelby Makin, said that the family decided to undertake the National Three Peaks Challenge - something which Andrew had previously attempted.

He said: “It was a really tough one to do and was very difficult and hard at times but we all managed to get through each step.

“Our goal was to raise enough money to keep Bolton Hospice open for 24 hours and we did that so we are very happy.”

The family chose to raise money for Bolton Hospice,as it was a cause which was close to Andrew’s heart.

The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon.

Those taking part included Andrew's daughter, Taylor, and the partners of her and Kelby.

Kelby added: "We have organised and been unable to complete many challenges this year due to covid restrictions and we didn't think we'd be able to do it. Thankfully, this one - our biggest challenge - was able to go ahead.

"It was an emotional ending and we were all proud we managed to do it."

The group were kindly donated the use of a van by Bolton Lads and Girls Club, which allowed them to get from each country altogether in a group.

Ther JustGiving page launched earlier this year said: "In the year 2020 we will be remembering Andrew in many ways, raising as much money as possible in the name of this amazing man, Andrew William Wallace. Even a couple of quid to buy Andrew a pint. He deserves this memory."
