Congratulations on your recent articles regards the nostalgia feature, (We Grew up in Southampton).

The articles that were printed in the Daily Echo on Friday 4 September and one in particular resonated with me.

It concerned the photo of Southampton Floating Bridge from 1976 in which group member Colin Lee and a Jenny Batt wrote that she took the journey from Woolston daily while working for a shipping company in Canute Road namely 'Benjamin Ackerley'.

I too worked in the area for a wonderful company called Killick Martin who were ship brokers and we dealt with many companies such as Benjamin Ackerley.

Sadly due to the various dock disputes of that period, many had to relocate or were closed down.

That's another story.

I will try and dig out photos I took of the Polygon Hotel while being demolished decades ago.

It was a famous hotel where many stars from shows, rock and pop concerts would stay being just round the corner from the Gaumont/Mayflower Theatre.
