A FIRE has ripped through a Southampton fish and chip shop.
Firefighters raced to tackle a blaze at Bassett Green Fish Bar in Bassett Green Road.
Crews from Eastleigh, Redbridge, St Mary’s and Hightown Fire Stations were on the scene after an emergency call was made at around 11am today.
The ground floor restaurant was 80 per cent damaged by fire while the first floor was damaged by smoke.
Residents were ordered to evacuate and a road block was put in place on one side of Bassett Green Road.
At least six engines are on the scene as well as paramedics and police.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman confirmed that four fire engines and three support vehicles were called to the scene.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: "We were called at 11.14am today, 8 September, to reports of a fire at a premise on Bassett Green Road, Southampton.
"Officers have attended to assist HFRS as they deal with this incident."

The route has since reopened and all persons are now accounted for, according to Hampshire Fire and Rescue services.
