NEW Forest indie band The Magic Gang has secured a second Top Twenty album with their record Death Of The Party.

The four-piece, who play again in Southampton next year, thanked fans for “sticking with the band”, adding that their latest success “means the world to them.”

Frontman Jack Kaye, guitarist Kristian Smith, bassist Gus Taylor and drummer Paeris Giles’ said their approach to this album was to broaden the scope of their harmony-rich, melodic pop.

They say they were also inspired by songwriters like Lou Reed and Alex Turner to take a more observational approach to lyrics.

Death Of The Party was recorded in Atlanta with the Grammy-winning producer Ben H. Allen, who previously has worked with stars like Gnarls Barkley.

The 11-track record reflects the experiences of their early-twentysomething contemporaries, exploring anxieties about money, relationships and the future, but also the fun moments used to escape such issues.

Lead single Think won Radio 1 support as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World and indie show host Jack Saunders’ Record of the Week.

The Magic Gang’s self-titled debut album reached number 12 in the official album chart in 2018.

In Southampton, they have previously played The Joiners, Engine Rooms, Heartbreakers and the main stage at Common People festival in 2017.

Their success comes after Southampton band Creeper had a top 5 hit with their second album Sex, Death & The Infinite Void in August.

The Magic Gang’s 2021 tour includes The 1865 in Southampton on Tuesday 16 March. Tickets at www.seetickets.com. They also play three London dates with Stockport stars Blossoms 29-31 March.
