A family are doing a memory walk going via several fish and chip shops.

The walk will be from Mike's Traditional Fish and Chips shop in Bishopstoke, to J Henry’s in Hedge End, with the walkers going via Sonny’s in Fair Oak, Best Fry in West End and Codfather in Hedge End.

The journey is about 9 miles and is taking place on Sunday September 20 and money is being donated to the Alzheimers society in memory of a local man, James Beyer who died earlier this year.

Louise Beyer, James' daughter has been organising the walk with her family and said: "We are walking the route via the fish and chip shops because my son Mike owns Mike's traditional fish and chips, and the company has made a generous donation."

"My dad was a very intelligent man and could turn his hand to almost anything including renovating our family cottage home in Botley."

James was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in February 2019 and passed away in April this year with the funeral taking place in lockdown and therefore only ten people could attend.

Louise added: "I wanted to do this walk to raise awareness as well as raising money to go towards such an important charity, in the hope that in the future people won’t have to suffer as we all did."

"J Henry's happens to be open on Sunday evenings so round off with fish and chips!"

The family have a target of £300 on their just giving page and at the time of the Echo going to press, they have raised £175 of this total.
