The NHS is launching a new COVID-19 app to support Test and Trace work.

The new app is being launched on September 24 and will help with controlling outbreaks of the virus, as well as allowing businesses to meet the legal requirement to record contact details of customers.

The app will provide users with local risk information, allow them to quickly and easily book a free test, and use a built-in QR scanner to check-in at venues.

Businesses who are already using their own QR system are being encouraged by local councils to switch to the NHS Test and Trace QR code.

An alternative check-in method, such as a handwritten register, must be maintained to collect the contact details of those who don’t have the app.

Businesses will be able to download and display posters containing QR codes in preparation for the launch that are unique to each venue.
