A HOUSEHOLDER has been allowed to keep a carport that was built without planning permission.

An appeal was lodged after New Forest District Council rejected a retrospective application relating to Waybak House in Exbury Road, Blackfield.

Now a government-appointed planning inspector has quashed the council's decision.

The inspector's report says: "The carport is partly screened by a front and side boundary hedge so although it is approximately 2.6m high only the roof is visible from the road.

"The car port is not a prominent or intrusive feature in the street scene, nor does it detract from the appearance of the existing dwelling.

"It does not significantly affect the spacious character of the area."
