A SOUTHAMPTON rap duo is set to have had the first national air play of their latest single on BBC 1Xtra.

The recent single by city-based rap duo Tyrone and Warbz was released on major national urban music platform GRM Daily.

It has now been played by celebrated DJ Reece Parkinson.

Called Can’t Relate, the single is their fifth release since the start of last year.

It showcases how they continue to make their own way in the industry independent of record labels and management companies.

The track refers to life growing up on estates around the city and why trust becomes a problem when it comes to building friendships when carving out a music career.

The pair have racked up more than two million streams on Spotify with their debut album Welcome To SO and performed on the pitch at St Mary’s ahead of kick off during a Premier League game under the lights last season.

They hope to further increase their profile this year in a genre dominated by artists from London and the north.

“The main focus of this track is to highlight how we are doing our own thing, are on our own journey and are yet to have a helping hand from anyone - but we are not doing too badly and we are showing it can be done,” said Tyrone.

“Both Warbz and myself are working tirelessly to make people aware there is an urban, rap, hip hop scene south of London and, ultimately, unite cities so that they all become part of a new era for music on the south coast.”
