South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) is holding elections for members of the public to join the Trust’s Council of Governors.

According to the SCAS website, governors “democratically influence the development of the Trust” by regularly attending meetings about the Trust’s plans.

Two public governors are required for Hampshire and will serve as the voice of members of the Trust in their constituency on matters of public health and emergency care.

The role would also involve selecting non-executive directors of the Trust.

Elections will be held in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Hampshire for public representatives in each county.

Two public governors are required for Hampshire.

Members of the public who are “passionate about their NHS and local health service” are encouraged to put themselves forward in the election.

To be eligible, nominees must be over the age of 16, a resident of the constituency they wish to represent and a member of the Trust (membership can be completed online.)

Describing the role, Lena Samuels, Chair of South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Being a public governor at SCAS provides you with a pivotal role in influencing how local health service decisions are made and services developed.

“It is a great opportunity to have your voice heard and represent the voice of others in your constituency.

“I would urge anyone who is passionate about their NHS and local health services to get involved and stand for election.”

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) provides emergency care for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire, an area with a combined population of approximately four million people.

Applications to stand in the election can be received from Monday 21 September.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 11 October 2020.
