Cllr Roz Chadd, executive member for education and skills at Hampshire County Council, said: “All Hampshire schools have been given clear guidance by Public Health England (PHE) about what to do when they have a confirmed case of COVID-19.

“When a case is confirmed, the local PHE Health Protection Team will advise the school, on a case by case basis, about the action they need to take, if any.

“National guidance is similarly straightforward for parents in that if their child has any of the symptoms of coronavirus – high temperature, persistent cough, loss of taste or smell – they should have their child tested.

“If they have symptoms of any other childhood illness, they do not need to be tested but should stay at home if they are too unwell to attend school and parents need to notify the school as they would normally.

“For usual illnesses, parents can contact NHS 111 or their GP if they are concerned.”
