A PROPOSAL to build 123 new houses in Hedge End is being discussed tomorrow.

The new development will be a mix one, two, three and four bedroom houses and will be discussed at a meeting of the Burseldon, Hamble-Le-Rice and Hound Local Area Committee at 6pm tomorrow.

A farmhouse and other former farm buildings are currently on the site of the planned build, just off of Heath House Lane in Hedge End.

The buildings will be demolished to allow for a mix of both market and affordable housing.

Heath House lane links Botley to Bursledon and the land was originally in Eastleigh Borough Council's Local Plan, detailing how 38 dwellings would be built on the site as well as a school.

Developers however thought the land would be better suited to just housing.

Residents have objected to the proposals raising concerns about the amount of houses, and over population.

One resident Stephen Bevis said: "I am sure that the building of these homes will effect the value of my property costing me thousands of pounds.

"The noise, dust and mess that will occur during the build will be intolerable.

"Hundreds of properties have been built in the adjacent fields to the side and rear of this site. Is this not enough?"

Another, Peter Hollands, added: "I am disappointed that yet another green space will be filled with houses in an already densely populated area.

"The route to the motorway junction is already busy and the access onto Heath House Lane could be dangerous for both pedestrians, horse riders and cars."

However, the developers of the plan, Bargate Homes Ltd and Vivid Homes say that the new development will provide 'much needed' housing and meet future needs whilst protecting the existing landscape features.

Contributions will also be made by developers to local facilities according to plans.
