The eastbound carriageway of the M4 has reopened after a crash earlier this morning.

The road was closed in both directions between junction 17 and 18 after a double crash this morning.

The first, on the eastbound carriageway, took place at 1.30am and involved one car.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene and another was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with life-threatening head injuries.

Two hours later a second crash between two articulated lorries, a car and a van happened on the westbound carriageway in the same area.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene with two more taken to Southmead Hospital.

The westbound carriageway remains closed and isn't expected to reopen until tomorrow.

Highways England has warned that roads in the area still remain busy and drivers should still expect delays.
