A LAVERSTOCK children’s author will be live streaming readings of one of her books to mark Black History Month.
Julia Edwards will start streaming the fifth book in The Scar Gatherer series from today (October 1). A chapter will be read each weekday live at 11.15am on The Scar Gatherer Facebook page. Julia said: “Slaves for the Isabella is set during the Transatlantic Slave Trade, and gives children a much deeper understanding of Britain’s part in the slave trade, including the impact of British slave ownership on modern Britain, and the difficulties we face in commemorating such an important but unpleasant part of our history. It’s a subject I came to feel hugely strongly about during the course of writing the book, and it’s been at the forefront of my mind during the Black Lives Matter protests.”
All readings will be freely available to watch after the live broadcast.
