MANY of us remember Calshot Spit from her time at Ocean Village yet her history dates back so much further.
Built in 1914, the 170-tonne lightship was known as Light Vessel 78 and was put to use to guide in the great liners and other ships off Calshot Spit.
After retirement, the red ship was placed at the entrance to the Ocean Village development as a decoration.
She was later moved to Southampton Docks for a proposed transport museum, but the plans were pulled in 2012.
The riveted iron-plated ship was transported from Dock Gate 4 to Solent Sky Museum in December 2019.
This lovely image from 1989 shows the vessel before her stint in Ocean Village.
