POLICE have launched an appeal after a young girl was approached by a 'suspicious' man yesterday.

A five-year-old girl was approached by the man - who was not known to her - as he drove alongside her and asked her to get into the car on Ashdown Road, Chandler’s Ford at around 6pm yesterday evening.

Police would like to speak to the man in connection with the incident.

He is described as being aged 35 to 45, white hair, wearing a black coat and was seen driving a black vehicle.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Police said: "Did you see what happened? Did you see a man acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the incident? Or perhaps you have CCTV or a video doorbell footage which may prove useful in our investigation.

"Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting 44200381441. Alternatively, you can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"We would also remind parents to remain vigilant at all times, especially those with young children, with the darker evening drawing in.

"Please do continue to report any suspicious behaviour to us by calling 101 or using our online reporting tool via the Hampshire Constabulary website."
