A PAIR of south coast nurses have been handed a prestigious title for their dedication to their job.

Lucy Parker, children's community nursing clinical matron and Angela Anderson, associate nurse director, of Solent NHS Trust were given the award the title of Queen's Nurse by the Queen’s Nursing Institute for demonstrating a high level of commitment to patient care and nursing practice.

They formally received their title at an annual awards ceremony, held online on September 31.

Lucy, who began her nursing career in 2008 and who comes from a family of nurses, was recognised for the contribution she has made to children’s community nursing.

Daily Echo:

She said: “I am honoured and thrilled to have been awarded the Queen’s Nurse award. I have a real passion for community children’s nursing; helping children, young people and their families to be cared for at home and avoiding going into hospital wherever possible.

"Children and young people thrive best when they are in their own environment with their families and it is a privilege to support them in the community.

"Community children’s nursing is a fantastic career which is incredibly varied and rewarding.”

Angela Anderson who qualified as a nurse in 1988 is trained in both adult and children’s nursing and has worked in a variety of hospital and community children’s services.

Jackie Ardley, Chief Nurse at Solent NHS Trust, said: “Only a small number of nurses, from across the country, receive this award every year.

"It really is a mark of professional excellence and inspirational nursing. Lucy and Angela’s commitment and passion for nursing really shines through.

"Lucy brings joy to the families she works with and her care and compassion for children and young people is evident in everything she does.

"Angela, who has a long career in children’s nursing, provides outstanding nursing leadership and is a fabulous role model to other nurses in our Trust.

"They both make a huge difference! We are really lucky to have them working with us in Solent NHS Trust.”
