A 78-year-old woman has been assaulted in a burglary at her home.

The incident took place at around 1.25am this morning (Thursday, October 8) on Queens Road, Portsmouth.

Police say the back door to the home was forced open and the victim woke up to two men upstairs who covered her mouth.

The men carried out an 'untidy search' of the property before leaving without taking anything.

The 78-year-old was left with a small cut to her nose.

She described the men as white and being aged in their late teens.

One was said to be wearing grey and the other a black hooded top.

Police are now appealing for anyone with footage relating to the burglary.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We have not received any other similar reports in the area.

"Anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist our enquiries is asked to call 101 quoting 44200389719.

"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111."
