A MOPED gang attack has left a woman injured and man in hospital.

A group of up to six people with mopeds surrounded a 31-year-old man and 22-year-old woman who were walking on Tangmere Drive, Southampton on Thursday night.

The man was rushed to hospital after being stabbed.

Meanwhile, the woman who had her phone stolen was also injured during the attack shortly before 11pm.

According to police, the incident is being treated as racially aggravated as the gang is said to have verbally abused the man before attacking him.

A police spokesperson said: "A group of 5 or 6 people with mopeds were reported to have approached a 31-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman who were walking on Tangmere Drive and stabbed the man.

"The woman also received injuries and reportedly had her mobile phone stolen.

A 16-year-old boy from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of robbery, GBH and possession of Class B drugs.

He remains in police custody at this time.
