A MAN who collapsed and “died” on his way to a pharmacy was brought back to life by a delivery driver who rushed to his aid.

Daryl John-Charles, from Southampton, is a driver for DPD, but last week he took on the role of a paramedic when he saw a man collapse.

Albert Frost, 79, was walking along Elderberry Close, Eastleigh, when he suddenly fell onto his wife.

He had stopped breathing and his wife was shouting for help, when Daryl, who happened to be nearby, rushed over and jumped in.

Daryl said: “I was a bit early for my next delivery, so I thought I’d stop outside, and as I was sorting out the back of my van I heard a woman shouting for help.

“There was a man leaning on her and she was struggling to hold him up, so I ran over, helped her put him down on the ground and put him in the recovery position.”

The delivery driver phoned the ambulance who instructed him to start giving CPR.

By this point Albert had started to ‘turn blue’ and was completely still with his mouth wide open.

Despite this, Daryl refused to stop and continued for ten minutes until Albert suddenly gasped for air.

Daryl added: “It was a very emotional experience. To see someone die and then to actually bring them back is the most amazing thing.

“In that situation, you just jump in and do what you have to do at the time.

“It’s a milestone in my life and something I will never ever forget.”

Albert is now back home with his family in Bishopstoke following the incident which took place on October 6.

Doctors said he suffered a ventricular tachycardia, causing his heart to stop.

His wife, Shirley Frost, said: “It just wasn’t his day to go. He’s a real tough lad and he’s not going anywhere just yet.

“He wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for [Daryl] there is no doubt whatsoever about that, because he had stopped breathing.

“I just don’t know how to thank him enough. I feel like I should do something but nothing would be enough.”
