The ladies 4s welcomed Wimborne to Down Grange in their hope to continue their winning streak and they did not disappoint.

The first half saw an evenly matched game with no goals from either team. In the second half both teams stepped up with opportunities for both teams. Basingstoke proved the stronger team with the only goal being scored by Basingstoke with great interplay between Ulrike Maier and Megan Payne who got the final touch, lifting the ball over the goalie and finding the back of the net. The game ended with a well-deserved 1-0 to the ladies 4s.

Basingstoke Ladies’ 1s had an away game against the University of Bath’s 1st team, with the opening ten minutes seeing Basingstoke dominating possession and putting considerable pressure on Bath’s defence.

Against the run of play, a quick counter-attack resulted in Bath scoring their first goal from a cracking strike.

Basingstoke Gazette:

Spurred on by this impressive goal, Bath quickly capitalised on their lead by scoring another goal from open play, this time a reverse stick shot. In the second quarter, Basingstoke fought back testing Bath’s defence, but their goalkeeper held firm, saving each attempt at goal.

Basingstoke won several penalty corners but credit to Bath’s defence for remaining solid. Basingstoke restructured themselves accordingly after half time and this steadied the ship, resulting in no goals in the third quarter. In the final quarter, with nothing to lose, Basingstoke attacked with gusto and relentlessness.

Bath’s goalkeeper made a few outstanding saves, thwarting Basingstoke’s attempts to score. Another quick counterattack from the opposition resulted in a well worked team goal. Despite an unflattering 0-4 loss, Basingstoke remains upbeat, with the next game against Bristol Firebrands scheduled for Saturday, October 17 at Down Grange at 2pm.
