AN EMERGENCY motion has been put forward to repair broken lights on a busy road.

The lights are said to be broken under the motorway bridge near Stoneham Lane Football Complex in Eastleigh.

Eastleigh Local Area Committee have now unanimously supported the motion put forward by Councillor Alex Bourne and called on Highways England and Hampshire County Council to take urgent action.

Councillors say repairs to the lights need to be made and a safe crossing should be provided on Stoneham Lane to ensure the safety of everyone crossing the road.

The council motion reads: "The Local Area Committee calls upon Hampshire County Council and Highways England to treat these issues with the upmost of urgency.

"Hundreds of children access this facility every week and need to do so safely especially with the evenings getting darker."

Chair of the Local Area Committee Tina Campbell said: "I’m delighted that we unanimously supported this motion.

"I’m deeply concerned that there are so many adults and children crossing this busy road every week.

"We must ensure that the appropriate safety measures are put in place as soon as possible for visitors to this popular community facility."
