POLICE are hunting a gang of teenagers who sparked a fire drama at a Hampshire park.

Emergency services were called after a blaze was started at Netley recreation ground last night.

The fire happened when a motorbike had been set alight while propped up against a wooden fence.

The alarm was raised by a police officer on patrol who saw a group of teenagers flee the scene.

Hampshire firefighters were alerted and dealt with the incident, which happened at about 8.35am.

Now police have launched an investigation and issued an appeal for to help track down the youngsters who ran away.

A spokesman for Hedge End police said: "Unfortunately whilst on patrol this evening I had the displeasure of locating a motorbike/moped which had just been set alight at the Netley recreation ground at about 8.35pm.

"A small group of teenagers were seen running from the scene but due to the darkness they could not be identified.

"The fire from the bike has caused extensive damage to the wooden wall which it was propped up against.

"Thankfully we had a fantastic response from our colleagues from Hampshire Fire and Rescue who quickly attended and put the flames out.

"It goes without saying that we are carrying out a thorough investigation. We are therefore asking for any potential witnesses or CCTV which might assist.
