POLICE have launched an investigation after a spate of thefts from cars.

Officers said the thefts happened in the Locks Heath and Warsash areas.

But they added that a number of the cars had been left unlocked by mistake at the time the thefts took place.

Now they have issued car crime advice and urged motorists to on their guard.

Officers based in Fareham have said that they crimes have happened over the last 24 hours.

Details of how many thefts and exactly where they have taken place have not been revealed.

A statement from Fareham police said: "We are aware that there has been a spate of theft from motor vehicles over the last 24 hours in the Locks Heath / Warsash areas.

"Several of the cars were unlocked at the time of entry so this is a reminder to double check you've locked your doors - we know how easy it is to press the fob accidentally or even without realising so it is always worth double checking that your vehicle is secure.

"We also advise that you do not leave any valuables visible in your vehicles when you are not in them.

"We will be investigating these thefts today."
