AN ELDERLY woman has been left in despair after flooding from a burst water pipe has still not been fixed after two years.

Bursledon resident Barbara Beavis now feels trapped in her own home as the water makes it difficult to leave her home.

In March 2018, a burst pipe meant water was coming up the drain outside her bungalow. This was originally mended however, a second burst occurred along Hamble Lane.

It has meant that a flood has been left outside her house and across the road for the past two years, making it difficult to drive past and enter her home.

The 78-year-old said: "Everytime it rains, I'm a bag of nerves.

"I just broke down, I don't know what else to do.

"It makes you cross and bad tempered. I was fuming, I couldn't sleep.

"There's a massive puddle outside my place, with the rain nothing can get away, I don't know what's happened to the drain. It has been constantly wet outside my property for a couple of years now.

"I can't do this anymore and keep bailing the water out.

"I can't cope with all. Cars go through and it comes into my drive.

"It is disgusting, I just can't believe it.

"I am upset about it."

Daily Echo:

Barbara said that she has been left confused by Southern Water and Hampshire Highways as she said neither have helped her.

She added: "The water board just turned their backs on it.

"I had black-gunge coming up - it was horrid.

"The problem will never go away.

"If they don't do anything, I just don't know what I'm going to do because now the water wont go away. Before it used to go away slowly and now it's not moving at all.

"The puddle is as wide as the bungalow.

"It just feels cold and damp and I shouldn't have to live like this."

A spokesperson for Southern Water said: "We’re sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. An issue was reported to us and we’ve already visited the property and spoken with the customer. We’ll be carrying out a full investigation on the 19th October to confirm if the issue relates to our pipes. Of course if it does, we will carry out the necessary repairs safely and as quickly as possible."

The Daily Echo has also approached Hampshire County Council for comments.
