A MAN threatened people with a large knife while less than 20 yards from police in a marked car.
Neighbourhood police officers were on high visibility patrol in Southbourne when they got stuck in traffic in Seabourne Road.
They spotted a disturbance on the pavement between members of the public and one man, who then produced a large knife.
"Unknown to him the police were less than 20 yards away and reacted immediately" said a spokesman for Bournemouth Police.
"After a short foot chase and with assistance from a patrol unit, the individual was arrested and taken to custody.
"Another knife taken off the streets."
