BISHOP’S Waltham Community First Responders (BWCFR) have been presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service at a presentation by the Lord-Lieutenant.

The award is the highest given to local volunteer groups to recognise outstanding work done in their communities.

Community First Responders attend life-threatening emergencies to give medical treatment and support before the ambulance arrives. The Bishop’s Waltham CFR group has been active for over 17 years with responders being the first on scene many times.

Community First Responders are all volunteers who are trained and despatched by the Ambulance Service. They also attend non-injury falls and concerns for welfare incidents.

Most do not have medical backgrounds and they come from all walks of life. They each contribute, on average, 20 hours a week or more to ensure that people in Bishop’s Waltham, Swanmore and Waltham Chase get a rapid response.
