Residents at a Southampton address said they are planning to move after a lit firework was put through their letterbox.

The firework exploded inside the property on Tennyson Road, Portswood, causing damage to the floor, walls and ceiling.

The residents. who did not wish to be identified, were home at the time of the explosion but not injured.

They said following the explosion they received a letter which allegedly said; "next time it will be a bigger bang."

Police are said to have taken the letter for fingerprinting.

The residents described the incident as "worrying" and said they were so distressed by it they have made plans to move away from the area.

"We're all moving home because of it" said one.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "Did you see anything usual around that time in Tennyson Road and adjoining Portswood Avenue?

"Please get in touch if you have any information or dash cam footage.

Police have not yet responded to requests for The Daily Echo for confirmation of reports of the threatening letter or information regarding any similar incidents in the area.
