A FAREHAM residen has started his own bicycle repair workshop.
Simon Williams set up the business during lockdown.
The 53-year-old had already been building and fixing bikes as a hobby and thought it could create an income.
Now, Warsash Cycles in Dibles Road, Warsash have had their business plans approved by Fareham council.
Simon said: "The feedback I got from the local community was fantastic.
"The start up cost was £45. I had load of tools already so I could start. I'd like to thank everyone in Warsash that has supported me - the local community have been brilliant."
Fareham borough council visited the workshop after a complaint about a sign outside his home.
However, Simon said that this was a blessing in disguise as plans have now been approved to continue the use of his garage for the business.
He added: "It is an essential service. We have one cycle shop but it is not enough to service the amount of people that live in this area.
"The support I got from the community was incredible. I put a small petition out and within 48 hours I got 990 signatures. The council were really good and wanted to support me.
"In a recession, we need to support small businesses.
"It feels great. The local community want me and the council want me as well."
Simon is now also opening e-commerce and selling bike accessories online.
He added: "It is exciting. It feels very nice.
"In a time where we have growing uncertainty again, it is a positive.
"It is a story of success. A local firm for local people."
