New Days restaurant in Bournemouth closed

The former Days restaurant premises has been vacant for months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A sign put in the restaurant’s window says that the owners were required to gain access to the property “due to an ongoing risk to the safety of the building”.

The property agency Ellis and Partners posted the notice and confirmed that no other businesses in the St. Peter’s Quarter building were affected.

Day’s restaurant, known for its choice of more than 200 dishes, closed in December and reopened under new ownership in February, having changed its name to New Day’s.

The businesss reduced opening times in March, but since has released no further information.

In a statement published on their website New Day’s said they are “closed until further notice due to the coronavirus” but hope to welcome customers back “in the near future”.

General manager of the Days restaurant in Poole Jason Hong worked at the Bournemouth restaurant for seven years prior to the change of ownership in December.

He said: “I don’t know if they are going to reopen it, we have nothing to do with the Bournemouth restaurant.

“The new owners wanted to change the opening times and the type of food that was on offer and it was a bit too much for me.”

The notice on the front door of the business says the owners of the building were required to enter the restaurant “for emergency access purposes only”.

The letter, dated on Friday October 9, reads: “We, as authorised agents acting on behalf of the Landlord, have this date changed the locks on these premises for emergency access purposes only due to an ongoing risk to the safety of the building and not for any other purposes and the Landlord has not effected re-entry of the property.

“The keys are being held to the Tenant’s order.”

The keys can be picked up by the current tenant “by prior appointment and subject to proof of the right to hold the keys” from Ellis and Partners’ offices in Dean Park Crescent.
