OVER 70 people in Southampton have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus in the last 24 hours.

Figures released on the government website reveal that 72 people had been confirmed as testing positive in the city for Covid-19 by 9am on Sunday October 25.

This takes the total number of people to have tested positive for coronavirus to 1,802, with 221 cases reported within the last seven day period.

Southampton’s infection rate per 100,000 people of the population now lies at 87.5.

In Eastleigh, the number of new cases has risen by 27 since 4pm on Saturday October 24, bringing the area’s total to 843.

The town has had 128 new cases in the last, and now has an infection rate of 95.8.

Elsewhere, the New Forest have had a further 27 new cases bringing the area’s passed 1,000 at 1,008.

The area has now recorded 155 cases have been reported in the last week, meaning the infection rate to lies at 86.1.

Fareham has had 14 cases in the last 24 hours and 79 new cases in the last week, bringing the region's total to 589 with an infection rate of 68.

Test Valley now has 938 Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic after recording 19 new daily cases and 94 in the last week.

Test Valley District now has an infection rate of 74.5.

In other places, Winchester has reported 24 new cases in the last day and 121 since last Sunday. The area’s total number of positive cases sits at 917 with an infection rate per 100,000 people of 96.9
