DRIVERS going out and about next week are likely to encounter roadworks in towns and cities across Hampshire.

Ongoing schemes include a multi-million-pound project to convert a 14-mile stretch of the M27 near Southampton, Eastleigh and Hedge End into a smart motorway.

A 50mph speed limit is still in force in the affected area.

Daily Echo:

Other major schemes include improvements to the Redbridge roundabout, at the southern end of the M271, and repairs to the Redbridge Causeway.

Elsewhere motorists could encounter road closures or other measures aimed at ensuring people comply with social distancing rules. In some areas pavements have been widened, resulting in less room for vehicles.

Alresford and Lee-on-Solent are among the areas affected by Covid-related restrictions.

In Southampton part of Bedford Place has been closed to vehicles in a move aimed at enhancing social distancing as well as improving air quality in the area.

Daily Echo:

Roadworks are continuing in several parts of the city, including the following routes:

West Quay Road: Work to improve access for people walking and cycling along West Quay Road from Herbert Walker Avenue to Harbour Parade.

A334 Thornhill Park Road/Hinkler Road Park: Work to upgrade the traffic signals at A334 Thornhill Park Road/Hinkler Road Park junction. The project will also deliver new crossing facilities for people walking and cycling across the junction.

Daily Echo:

Redbridge roundabout: Ongoing Highways England project

Millbrook footbridge: Ongoing Network Rail project to replace footbridge.

Mountbatten Way: Final stages of project to lengthen right-hand turn into West Quay Road and create an extra line. Traffic management will remain out until November 6 due to inclement weather and engineering issues.

Dale Road: Closed from between its junctions with Winchester Road and Norham Avenue while Southern Gas Network complete mains replacement works, which are expected to take two weeks.

People who normally use Dale Road to reach Southampton General Hospital are being diverted along Lordswood Road and Coxford Road.
