A Southampton adult student has been recognised by a national award for achieving a distinction in an engineering qualification whilst working full time.

City College Southampton student, Dmitrijus Sluka, aged 30, was recognised in the national Festival of Learning awards 2020 for his commitment to his own professional development.

As well as his Higher National Certificate in Engineering he has been promoted in his full time role of Technical Operator at contact lens manufacturer CooperVision.

Dmitrijus also completed courses at City College including welding, Computer-aided design and management.

He said: “This experience gave me the skills to progress in my Engineering career, confidence to further my studies with MIT, and most importantly, initiative to mentor others creating a positive can-do atmosphere.”
