WORK has begun to remove advertising boards from the Camrose site.
One lane of the A30 Winchester Road has been closed for much of the day as contractors remove the boards from the side of the ground.
It comes around six weeks since the historic decision to refuse planning permission on the ground.
The ground, the former home of Basingstoke Town FC, had been the subject of plans for 85 flats and a 70-bed care home, but they were thrown out by councillors who said that the loss of the stadium had not been mitigated against, and that the plans overdeveloped the stadium.
Former club chief, Rafi Razzak, whose company Basron had put forward the development plans, told The Gazette that he was not aware of any work happening at the site.
Hampshire County Council's online portal One.Network shows that the works should be continuing until tomorrow.
It comes after safety concerns were raised about the out-of-use billboards were disintegrating and could pose a risk to passersby.
