A SECONDARY school in Southampton has confirmed two cases of Covid-19.

The positive tests are said to have come from a member of staff and a student at Saint George Catholic College on Leaside Way.

Both individuals are 'fine and recovering well' after developing mild symptoms over the weekend according to a letter from the headteacher.

They have both been self isolating since testing positive.

A further 20 pupils, who were in close contact with the individuals, have also been told to self isolate as a precaution and will be allowed to return to school on November 19.

The school has over 900 pupils and has carried out a risk assessment as well as taking advice from Public Health England on the cases.

Headteacher, James Habberley, said: "Both the member of staff and the student took the necessary steps as a precaution and took a test and have self-isolated since the weekend.

"They are not related and we are very confident, in conjunction with Public Health England, that these were not transmitted within the school having reviewed each case.

"I have spoken to all students and staff this afternoon and can only thank them for how mature and supportive they have all been.

"We are a strong community who will continue to look after each other."
